At the end of the day, all people really want in life is to enjoy good vibes. Of course, we mean that in the emotional/spiritual/mental way, but we also mean that if you don't have a vibrator you love at the moment, it's time to get one.

Likely, you don’t need us to list the virtues of having a vibrator you can rely on — the benefits of getting yourself off speak for themselves. Finding that reliable vibrator though, can be a whole other story. Even if you’re proud of the sex toy stash you’ve built up, confronting the sheer number of options when it comes to picking out a new vibe is overwhelming. And if you’re new to the game? Well, picking that perfect first vibe can feel next to impossible.

Does the perfect vibrator exist?

Yes! Also, no. As with everything else when it comes to sex, what makes a good vibrator relies a lot on a single factor — your own preferences. That’s not to say there aren’t key features you should look for in a vibe, but what one person’s perfect vibrator is can be another person’s buzzing nightmare.

Even on Mashable’s sex and relationships team, clit suction toys are highly divisive, pointing to the very simple fact that different people enjoy different sensations. All of this to say, if you’ve tried a vibrator that didn’t do a whole lot for you despite testimony after testimony that it would give you the best orgasms of your life, all that means is that your sex toy search continues, not that there’s anything wrong with you.

How to choose your vibrator

Vibrators come in all different shapes, sizes, and though they perform the same basic function, vary quite a bit in how they get you there. Finding the best vibrator for you can be a sometimes frustrating process, but is greatly helped by having an understanding of what you're looking for in your sex toy.

Vibration speeds and patterns

In this case of vibration speeds and patterns, more does not necessarily equal better. Sure, it can be fun to mix it up from time to time, but clicking through 11 different settings if you accidentally hit a button mid-masturbation isn't exactly the definition of a good time. Still, if you're someone who likes a vibrator that'll keep you on your toes, having the variation can be nice.

Buzzy vs. rumbly

In addition to programmed vibration intensities, speeds, and patterns, vibrators fall into three categories: rumbly, buzzy, or somewhere in between. Some brands, like Dame, will put where a vibe falls right on the product page, but in other instances, it's worth taking a glance through the reviews to see what people say. Typically, battery-powered vibes are buzzier. Rumbly vibrators tend to have lower frequency vibrations that are quieter and can be felt deeper, while buzzy are higher in frequency, are louder, and keep sensations more surface level, which can be great for pinpointed stimulation (though some people complain that this causes a numbing sensation). For your convenience, we've made sure to mark where all the vibrators below fall.

Size and shape

The Magic Wand is a cult favorite for a reason. But despite its general reliability, a larger wand vibrator doesn't necessarily scream discreet. This wand in particular tends to be louder, and definitely requires more real estate in your nightstand drawer.

The size of a vibrator can also determine the different or limited ways you can use it. The Magic Wand comes with no attachments and isn't designed to be put inside of you. A bullet vibrator, however, probably can (though we recommend following a brand's instructions about the safe ways to use its sex toys). At the very least, a smaller and more compact vibe can be better for use during intercourse. Maybe, neither of these options sound all that appealing to you as you're looking so some solo g-spot stimulation, in which case you'll want to opt for something longer meant to be used internally, like a rabbit vibe.

Cleanliness

If your vibrator isn’t made out of quality material or all that easy to clean, you probably won’t be reaching for it all that much, even if you’re horny 24/7. Simply put, if you’re regularly putting something near, on, or in your genitals, you’ll want to make sure that something is safe and that it can take a nice thorough clean after. This might mean that you stay away from those mildly sketchy super cheap vibrators and invest a little more, which doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have to sacrifice affordability.

Battery life

Some vibrators run on teeny, tiny, batteries, but most these days (especially if you're paying a bit more) are USB rechargeable. If you notice a vibrator uses a magnetic USB charger, it is most likely splash-proof and maybe even waterproof, which is especially good news if you like you use your time in the bath to really relax. Most rechargeable vibes have at least 30 minutes of runtime in them, but it's definitely worth double-checking if you know you like taking your time and dislike feeling rushed.

Good vibes await you

On this list, you'll find vibrators designed to tease you until you can't take it, get you there in two minutes flat, or let you choose the speed that day. You can choose one for now or stock up on a few to use for different occasions. In any case, you deserve the best of the best, so here are our top picks for the best vibrators.

Maude Vibe

Best For The Basics

Read more from Mashable about the Maude Vibe in our guides to the best budget sex toys and the most popular vibrators.

From its name to its design, the Maude Vibe exudes cool-girl energy — it has that perfect mix of seeming effortlessness while also being entirely capable and impressive.

In a nutshell, that's the Maude Vibe, which is why it has been noted as a favorite of not just one, but two Mashable reporters. It only has one button to turn it on and off and sort through the three vibration speeds. Its design is frankly stunning (and we don't use this word for just any old vibrator; this one was literally featured in the MoMA Design Store), and its simplicity makes it shine. It's tiny, making it great for solo use, partnered-use, and travel.

Don't mistake its size for a lack of power, though — on a full charge, this vibe has up to 2.5 hours of use in it, and more than one customer review notes that the first two speeds are more than enough to get them there. The tip is also great for pinpointing extra sensitive spots.

Its hard to find something to complain about with this vibe, but we will say that though it can technically be used in the bath or shower, it's only water-resistant, so you won't want to submerge it in any water. Other than that, this is simply an elegant vibrator at an affordable price, making it an ideal pick for vibrator users of all experience levels.

Read Mashable's full review of the Luna Massage Wand.

Usually, a super cheap vibrator is a cause for skepticism, especially if it's sold on Amazon. If there's an exception to be made, it's with the Luna Massage Wand.

Here's why: despite being less than $26, the Luna Massage Wand provides powerful vibrations comparable to more expensive wands. It's made with body-safe silicone, which is a huge plus considering its retailer (we typically recommend getting your sex toys anywhere but Amazon because quality from third-party sellers can be so shoddy as to be unsafe).

Somehow, despite being actually functional and well-made, the Luna doesn't sacrifice on versatility. The wand comes with 20 vibration patterns and eight speeds, the most powerful of which "can probably take you into another dimension within seconds if you'd like," as Mashable sex & relationships reporter Anna Iovine wrote in her review. While this many settings can usually be a pain to scroll through mid-sesh, the Luna wand has "intuitive memory" which basically means when you turn on the toy, it'll default to your most recently used settings (aka the settings you probably like best).

The Luna is lighter than other wand vibrators, clocking in at just 4.7 ounces. Combined with its flexible neck and seven inches of length, you get a pretty maneuverable wand. Plus, it comes in a ton of cute colors. Whether you're looking to add a new toy to your collection without breaking the bank or you want to try out your first vibe but not drop $50 or more, the Luna Massage Wand is an excellent selection.

Purple poet suction toy on a gradient background

The Poet

Best Suction Vibrator

Read Mashable's full review of the Poet.

To be completely upfront with you, we should share that the Poet technically isn't a vibrator in the traditional sense of the word. Like many other members of its clit stimulating family, this toy actually uses air pulsation, and not vibrations, to give those oh-so-good sensations. And though it may take some trial and error, it certainly does deliver.

There are plenty of suction vibrators out there, including popular picks like the Satisfyer Pro 2 that are cheaper than the $129 Poet. But what the Poet has, and they do not, is an understanding that not all clits are built the same — with its three interchangeable heads, the Poet is one of the first suction toys to push back against the one-size-fits all mentality. The three heads are 10 millimeters long, 18 millimeters long, and 25 millimeters long, which are useful for both making sure the toy actually fits your body (revolutionary) and adjusting the intensity (the looser the fit, the less intense, which is ideal for those with sensitive clits). This versatility will require a bit more patience in figuring out how to make this vibe work for you, but that's par for the course with many a suction toy.

The other aspects of the Poet's design are just as impressive, with the finger-pad sized indents on its sides making it both easy for holding and squeezing, which adjusts the vibration and pulse speed. So yes, it's a little pricey, but it has the features that back the price up, and still, it's still cheaper than the Womanizer Premium or Lelo Sila

We-Vibe Tango

Best Bullet Vibrator

Read more from Mashable about the We-Vibe Tango.

Here's why people typically love bullet vibrators: They're compact, pack a punch, and don't cost a ton. Here's why people typically don't love bullet vibrators: they're battery-operated and too buzzy.

The We-Vibe Tango is "an upgrade to the standard bullet vibrator," as Mashable culture reporter Anna Iovine puts it. Ditching the batteries allows this bullet vibe to achieve deep, rumbly vibrations, despite being small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Unlike the typical rounded edge, the lipstick-slanted edge of this bullet vibe allows for more stimulating options — the vibe's three speeds and five patterns also help in this department.

If you're not looking for more intense direct stimulation, the Tango might be a bit too much. It is also on the pricier end, but if you want a bullet vibe that'll last for a while and that you'll actually want to use time and time again, we say the Tango is well worth the investment.

Lelo Ina Wave 2

Best Rabbit Vibrator

Read Mashable's full review on the Lelo Ina Wave 2.

Rabbit vibrators are the sex toy definition of great in theory, forgettable in practice. That's because as nice as dual stimulation sounds, actually finding a toy that is sized in a way that it actually reaches enough inside you and your clit at the same time is not as easy as you'd think. And that's not even getting into the fact that merely sticking a few inches of vibrator inside of you doesn't necessarily give the stimulation you'd hope for.

That's why the Lelo Ina Wave 2's game-changing Wave Motion technology makes this rabbit one worth writing about. Mashable culture reporter Jess Joho called the toy "the best that rabbit vibrators have to offer," and that's because the internal part of the vibe actually moves inside you, replicating a "come hither" motion. And as gimmicky as it sounds, it actually works pretty freaking well in providing internal stimulation.

As this is top of the line stuff, you do pay a premium price, as is standard for most Lelo products. Though the clitoral arm could benefit from a bit more flexibility and twelve different vibration modes does feel a bit gratuitous, the overall design and functionality of this vibrator shows that Lelo is actually trying to make good on its promise of the blended orgasm, rather than pumping out yet another rabbit vibrator that's a touch out of step with basic anatomy.

Read more from Mashable about the Magic Wand Rechargeable in our review of the best wand vibrators.

After three long decades, someone’s finally released the iconic Hitachi Magic Wand from the chains of an electrical cord. Enter: the Magic Wand Rechargeable.

This new model lets you take the ecstasy of the OG Hitachi anywhere while delivering the same legendary power of its predecessor. It’s got four different vibration speeds for its firm silicone head, a four-speed selector switch that lets you control its intensity, and a light display so you can see what level you're on. Perhaps most impressively, it’s capable of running for three straight hours on a single charge that takes the same amount of time.

From appearance alone, you can tell that the Magic Wand is not the most subtle toy out there, but icons don't have to be. With vibrations maxing out at 6300 RPM, or 105HZ, it's definitely on the rumblier end of the spectrum, but make no mistake — this wand makes some noise. The power this wand packs is no joke, and first time users might need some time to work their way up from the first intensity level.

Dame Fin

Best For Using During Sex

Read more from Mashable about the Dame Fin.

Honestly, finding a good vibrator to use during intercourse is harder than you'd think. Too big, and you're limited on what positions you can use it in. Too small, and you or your partner might have trouble holding on to it in the heat of the moment.

The Dame Fin is the Goldilocks of vibrators to use during sex. It's tiny enough that it doesn't get in the way and comes with a convenient strap that makes it easy to keep in your hand on your body, no matter how deep you are in throes of passion. It has one button for turning it on, off, and going through its three speed settings.

It doesn't give the most powerful vibrations ever and because it is buzzy, tends to be a bit louder, but if you're using it in the middle of sex, we're betting that you're not being all that quiet either. There are more versatile vibes out there, but for one specifically to use with a partner, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better option than the Dame Fin. (Though if you're really not a fan, Dame is one of the only sex toy companies that allows returns.)

If you're looking for a vibrating butt plug, we're going to assume that this isn't your first foray into the world of anal toys. If it is, welcome, it's great to have you here — might we recommend starting off with a non-vibrating option like Unbound's Nudge or something a bit smaller. The Shimmy will be here for you when you're ready.

If you are ready to level up your anal play experience, the Unbound Shimmy is the way to go. At just over six inches long and one inch in diameter, the Shimmy is definitely a medium plug, but not so large that it'll take forever to work up to its size. The handle attached to the plug's wider end allows for easy insertion, whether you're using it alone or with a partner

You'll also find a small button on the loop, which allows you to cycle through the five different speeds and five vibration patterns this plug has to offer. While it is a tad inconvenient to have one button to switch through ten different settings, it is nice that there's lots of variation, as anal play provides some very unique sensations that people can have strong preferences about. Unbound's toys also come with helpful user guides (how this not a thing for every sex toy brand, we don't know) so you can get the most out of the Shimmy.

Read Mashable's full review of the Wild Flower Enby 2.

The Enby 2 is the vibrator that looks at all the traditionally phallic-looking vibes out there and simply decides to say "No ❤️".

Upon first glance, you might not even realize Wild Flower's Enby 2 is a vibrator. But this bike seat-looking baddie is your classic case of being more than meets the eye.

The wide surface area and flexible fins allow you to manipulate this vibe in tons of different ways that are not at all possible with your traditional bullet or wand. Because it's flat, you can throw it on a pillow and grind to your heart's content or slip it inside a harness. The Enby 2 basically throws out any preconceptions you have of what a vibe should be, especially in that it is in no way treated as being just for one gender (hence why its name is a play on the shortened form of non-binary, or NB). Though obviously that should be the case for any vibe, it's nice that there's a toy out there that markets itself as such and leans in to the different ways different bodies can enjoy some buzz.

Read more from Mashable about the Lioness Vibrator.

Masturbation can be a great way to learn more about your body and what you like. Lioness takes that idea to a whole new level with a vibrator that gets you off and then gives you the data of your orgasms. That's right — you can now see the graphs of your sexual pleasure.

Here's how it works: the Lioness is a rabbit vibrator, but the internal arm is packed with sensors, so the vibe can use AI and biofeedback to tell you about what makes you cum. This vibe pairs with an app, and then takes data collected from how your body reacted during its use (think pelvic floor movements) to create a graph of your arousal. In the app, you can add notes about your session, and see how your orgasms differ based on factors like on your mood, environment, health, state of intoxication and so on. The app doesn't function perfectly 100% of the time, but the more you use it the better it gets at understanding your O's. You can even watch your orgasms on the graph in real time, if you're that data dedicated.

Beyond being a super-fancy orgasm tracker, this is actually a solid vibrator too. The internal arm doesn't vibrate, but the external clitoral arm certainly does. The wider, rounded head can provide more stimulation than other rabbit vibrators, and the customizable speeds and intensities from the app lets you get those vibrations that are just right. So yes, this vibrator is undeniably expensive, but it's also undeniably unlike any other sex toy out there, which might just make it worth the splurge.

How we tested

All but one of the vibrators on this last were hands-on tested by current and former Mashable sex & relationships reporters. In addition to our reporters' seals of approval, these vibes have all also received favorable customer reviews and come from reputable brands that use body-safe materials.

The only vibrator on this list that has not been hands-on tested by the Mashable team is the Unbound Shimmy. We've decided to include it for its excellent features-to-price ratio, and because Unbound is a brand we trust and have hands-on tested with their Pep vibrator.

Mashable reporters stay up-to-date with the best sex toys, new and old alike, as part of our extensive sex and relationships coverage, which helps us provide you with finely curated lists of our top picks for vibrators.
