The Magic Wand is an iconic vibrator, with several options to choose from: the original plug-in variety; rechargable; mini; and throne version (just kidding, that's an art piece).
Now, the brand has released its newest, cutest wand yet: the Magic Wand Micro. Coming in at 4.5 inches long (half of the Mini Wand) and weighing three ounces (about the same as a deck of cards), the Micro is "pocket-sized" power, according to the website.
The Magic Wand Micro is tiny, and its impact on your bank account will be a bit more mighty: $84.99 at sex toy online shop Lovehoney. Is the Micro worth it? Mashable tested the adorable vibe to find out.
Ins and outs of the Magic Wand Micro
The Micro fits its namesake, but it comes with a considerable amount of features. The most shocking, maybe, is that the Micro has a higher rotations per minute (or RPM) than any other Magic Wands: 6,500 RPM for the Micro as opposed to 6,000 to 6,300 for all the other wands. This basically means that the highest vibration setting on the Micro is really fast.
And the wand does hold its own in terms of vibrations and patterns. The Micro offers steady vibrations in three different speeds (approximately 4,500; 5,500; and 6,500 RPM), as well as three settings with different patterns of intermittent vibrations, and finally a gradual vibration from weak to strong.
You can cycle through these settings using one of the Micro's two buttons: the "M" button, for mode. The other button below it is the power button.
The Micro has the same silicone head and flexible neck as the other wands, albeit smaller (the circumference of the head is 1.3 inches, a bit bigger than a quarter).
The toy is USB rechargeable and comes with a charger. It takes around three hours to charge, according to the user manual that comes with the Micro, and lasts three hours — however, it will automatically shut off after 20 minutes to avoid overheating. At that point, you'd probably need to stop using it to avoid overheating as well.
As it's perfect for travel, I expected the Micro to have a travel lock, but it doesn't. It does, however, come with an attachable loop in case you want to carry it around on your wrist.
The Magic Wand Micro experience
The Micro Wand is adorable and just the experience of holding it sparks joy. Actually using the toy does, too; it's just as powerful as its bigger cousins, and has a range of patterns that any fan of rumbly vibrations ought to enjoy. For such a small toy, the amount of choice in speed and pattern is impressive.
The toy is pretty intuitive to use; as it only has two buttons, there's not much fuss. I also didn't notice much of a difference between sensations compared to other Magic Wands, even though the head is smaller.
This is perfect for either solo or partnered play, too. For the latter, there's no cord that gets in the way, and it's small enough not to steal the show.
Like other wand vibrators, the Magic Wand Micro isn't waterproof, so you must be careful when cleaning the head. The user manual states to make sure the toy is off when cleaning the toy, and to not use abrasive cleaning products with alcohol, benzene, acetone, or any liquid chemical cleanser as it can damage or discolor the wand. Your best bet is to use a cleaner specifically made for silicone sex toys, and to wipe it with a clean cloth before and after each use.
The lack of a travel lock is a bummer, especially because this is the perfect toy to tuck in your suitcase. So if you're going away with your Magic Micro Wand, I suggest packing it in a secure place (unfortunately it doesn't come with a pouch either) and praying it doesn't go off as your carry-on sways to and fro in the overhead compartment.
I also noticed my wand sometimes makes a noise as if something is jostling around in there. It's not a dealbreaker — and it may be a problem with my wand, not all Micros — but given the price, it's a bit disappointing to hear.
Is the Magic Wand Micro worth the price?
If you're a Magic Wand stan and can swing about $85 for a tiny toy, then yes, this is absolutely worth it. The Micro packs a punch just like any other Magic Wand, only in a smaller and thus cuter package.
However, there are cheaper wands and small toys out there if the price point is too steep for you, such as the Luna Massage Wand. Dame's bullet-style Zee toy (part of our 2020 list of budget toys under $50) is less than half of the cost at $30, for example. I can't speak to the use of some of those cheap bullet vibes, though, and assure you that the Micro isn't comparable to a bullet with its powerful motor and variety of settings.
It's also notable that the Micro is only $15 cheaper than the Magic Wand Mini on Lovehoney, which is sold at $100. Given that the Micro is a great vibrator and even cuter than the Mini, though, the Micro wins out.
