Portable PC gaming machines are the hot new thing. Sure, you could play through a huge library of titles on the Nintendo Switch, but it lacks the power and ability to play the beefier titles out there. And you wouldn't want to see hefty resource hogs like Cyberpunk 2077 running on that system. You need something with a lot more oomph. If one of your New Year's resolutions is to get through your massive backlog of PC games, this is your lucky day.

As of Jan. 9, the Asus ROG Ally, a formidable competitor to Valve's Steam Deck, is on sale for $399.99 at Best Buy. That's $200 off its original price of $599.99 and a discount of 37% — not too bad if you haven't yet bought a handheld gaming device and don't want to break the bank for one that'll have your back.

The ROG Ally is essentially a PC you can take with you to enjoy your favorite games on the go. It runs on Windows 11 and comes equipped with a Ryzen Z1 CPU, meaning it can handle just about anything you throw at it. It boasts a 7-inch 1080p LED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and a rechargeable battery that'll get you about 3 hours per charge on standby and 1-1.5 hours on Turbo or Performance Mode, which are graphically intensive options you'll more than likely want to play while plugged into a power source.

Still, for the money, this is a great buy for anyone who doesn't have a gaming laptop or wants to move from the sofa to the bed or another area in the house to play their favorite titles while relaxing. It's also a fun little device to experiment with in general, so nab one before this deal's gone.
